Paul Jones is a 12-year, career reporter with four years’ worth of experience covering state tax policy for Tax Notes on the West Coast. His work in particular focuses on how states’ tax regimes are evolving in reaction to the changing economy, federal tax reform, and the shift of political power in certain states.
Before his time at Tax Notes, he worked as a legal news reporter with the San Francisco Daily Journal, covering the state judicial branch in Sacramento, where he gained experience covering the state legislature and California's political scene.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science, Jones first cut his teeth reporting on local government news in Marin County California, and subsequently earned a master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University. He lives in Sacramento and enjoys visiting historic places.
