Andrea Muse

Andrea leads a team of legal reporters, offering editorial guidance and setting coverage priorities around state tax litigation, legal trends, seminars, and conferences. She previously served as a legal reporter for Tax Notes Today State. Before joining Tax Analysts in 2017, she was a senior tax policy analyst with the Virginia Department of Taxation’s Office of Tax Policy, where she drafted and reviewed regulations and guidance documents and analyzed tax legislation.  Andrea has a BA in economics from the College of William and Mary, a JD from the College of William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law, and an executive LLM in taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Andrew Velarde

Andrew leads a team of legal reporters, offering editorial guidance and setting coverage priorities on a variety of domestic and international tax subjects, and he helps track developments in U.S. courts. As a reporter himself, he covers news related to U.S. international tax, focusing on IRS and Treasury guidance and court developments. He previously served as legal reporter and senior legal reporter for Tax Notes Today Federal. Before joining Tax Analysts in 2013, Andrew worked as an international tax consultant for Deloitte Tax.  He has a BS in commerce from the University of Virginia, a JD from George Washington University Law School, and a master of accountancy from George Washington University.

Cady Stanton is a congressional reporter with Tax Notes Today Federal, covering Capitol Hill since early 2023. Emily Hollingsworth

Emily Hollingsworth is a reporter with Tax Notes Today State, covering tax policy and legislation in northeastern and midwestern states. Hollingsworth also investigates state tax trends, and how state tax agencies approach the administration of digital currencies and emerging technologies.

Hollingsworth first joined Tax Notes Today State in 2022 and has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Mary Washington.

Jeremy Scott

Jeremy guides daily operations for the editorial, growth, and IT departments and concentrates on the development and success of the Tax Notes suite of products. He oversees the organization's publishing efforts, leading initiatives to improve integration and optimize products, pipelines, and workflows. A tax policy and corporate tax expert, he joined Tax Analysts in 2008 and has served as chief content officer, executive editor of commentary and analysis, and editor in chief of Tax Notes Federal. Before joining Tax Analysts, Jeremy practiced law with Silverman & Associates Chtd., and he is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia bars. Jeremy has a BA in history from the University of Virginia and an LLM in taxation from Georgetown Law Center.

Joseph Thorndike

Joseph is a nationally recognized historian of U.S. fiscal and economic policy and serves as the director of the Tax History Project at Tax Analysts. He is a co-creator (with Robert Goulder) of the “Five Minutes On” video series on tax-related topics. He first joined Tax Analysts as an intern in 1987 and later worked as a congressional reporter and a deputy editor in chief. He is the author or co-editor of several books, including Their Fair Share: Taxing the Rich in the Age of FDR, and he writes frequently for national publications and scholarly journals. Joe has a BA in history from Williams College and an MA and PhD in history from the University of Virginia.

Lauren Loricchio

Lauren Loricchio is investigations editor, leading Tax Notes’ investigations team, which examines state, federal, and international tax issues. She also reports on transparency issues for Tax Notes Today Federal. She is the recipient of ASBPE bronze regional awards for government coverage (2022) and enterprise reporting (2019) and was a 2017 Society of Professional Journalists-DC Dateline Award finalist for investigative reporting.

Before joining Tax Analysts, Lauren was a staff writer for the Baltimore Sun Media Group where she covered education, breaking news, and community news. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Marie Sapirie

Marie, who joined Tax Analysts as a legal reporter in 2010, writes in-depth, technical articles and features on a wide array of federal tax topics and is a frequent guest on the Tax Notes Talk weekly podcast. Her writing has covered such areas as the energy tax credits of the Inflation Reduction Act, partnership audits, and opportunity zones. Before joining Tax Analysts, she was an associate with the tax practice at Covington & Burling LLP and a law clerk for Judge D. Brooks Smith of the Third Circuit and Judge Glen E. Conrad of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. Marie has a BA in English and economics from Georgetown University and a JD from William & Mary Law School.

Martin Sullivan

Marty specializes in crafting in-depth, technical articles and features on a wide array of economic and tax topics, along with producing analyses on current issues to capture public interest and stimulate discussion. He has written over 1,000 economic analyses for Tax Notes and two books on tax reform, and he has testified before Congress numerous times. Marty was awarded the National Tax Association’s 2021 Davie-Davis Public Service Award, which honors NTA members who have served the public by providing insight and advice on taxation and government finance, and the 2019 Tax Council Policy Institute of Excellence Award. Before joining Tax Analysts in 1995, he taught economics at Rutgers University and served as a staff economist at the Treasury Department and the Joint Committee on Taxation. Marty has a BA in economics from Harvard College and a PhD in economics from Northwestern University.

Michael Smith

Nathan Richman

Nathan J. Richman has been a legal reporter for Tax Notes Today Federal since the beginning of 2015. Paul Jones

Paul Jones is a 12-year, career reporter with four years’ worth of experience covering state tax policy for Tax Notes on the West Coast. His work in particular focuses on how states’ tax regimes are evolving in reaction to the changing economy, federal tax reform, and the shift of political power in certain states.

Before his time at Tax Notes, he worked as a legal news reporter with the San Francisco Daily Journal, covering the state judicial branch in Sacramento, where he gained experience covering the state legislature and California's political scene.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science, Jones first cut his teeth reporting on local government news in Marin County California, and subsequently earned a master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University. He lives in Sacramento and enjoys visiting historic places.

Bob joined Tax Analysts in 1999 and specializes in crafting both in-depth, technical commentary for his column The Last Word and features on a wide array of cross-border tax topics, producing analyses on current issues to capture public interest and stimulate discussion. He is the creator of the video series “In the Pages” and co-creator (with Joseph Thorndike) of the series “Five Minutes On.” He previously served Tax Analysts as a legal reporter and editor, editor of Tax Notes International, editor in chief of the international department, and tax policy counsel.
